Katie Bartels founded her eponymous jewelry line in 2007. Her bold statement pieces are inspired by a love of color and world travels.
Katie first began designing and creating statement pieces as an undergraduate at Cornell University to brighten her own outfits. Her original pieces turned heads and she decided to launch her brand to spread that joy. As she put together her first gemstone jewelry collection, Katie enrolled in the Gemological Institute of America, where she received her Graduate Gemology degree.
Each of Katie’s pieces are influenced by her travels and love of color. Katie’s travels have taken her all over the world and her greatest design inspiration has come from trips to India, Morocco, Cuba, and Palm Springs, CA.
The bold use of color in Katie’s collections is inspired by her appreciation of modern art, sparked by MoMA’s 2008 exhibit “Color Chart: Reinventing Color, 1950 to Today”. Her favorite artists include Charley Harper, Ellsworth Kelly, Frank Stella, and Joseph Albers.
Katie’s lightweight statement pieces are handmade in her bright Greenwich, CT, design studio.
